Promote hydrogen fuel cell vehicles rather than batteries

The current government policy heavily promotes the use of battery powered electrical vehicles. Many people may consider that these are the only electrical vehicles that are available.
The downsides are

  • There is no ability to instantly refuel
  • Batteries are expensive
  • Batteries have a limited life and are very polluting when recycled
  • Batteries are also heavy

The other – and in my opinion far superior technology is hydrogen fuel cells. This is by far the move viable ongoing solution

  • Hydrogen is produced locally at the filling station using water and electricity in a simple process called hydrolysis
  • Hydrogen can be produced at times of low electricity demand and stored
  • The only emission is water
  • Now a safe technology
  • Range in excess of 300 miles – Refill in minutes
  • Lighter than electric vehicles
  • No environmental issue from disposal of batteries

In 2017 Shell started a project to open hydrogen filling stations in and around the M25
